Welcome to Islamic Heritage Society Inc.
In 1971, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Islamic Cultural Center was established as a cultural, ''non profit and non political organization'' affiliated with the Islamic Center of New York. The organization was founded by the wives of Muslim representatives to the United Nations and staff members of the Secretariat as well as American citizens .
In 1973, the organization changed its name to ''Islamic Cultural Society'' to embody its widened objectives and later to "Islamic Heritage Society Inc." as it expanded its activities in 1993. The organization is governed by an unpaid board of directors.
The IHS provides a vehicle through which Americans, as well as people from the international community can preserve their history and culture. Mainly to form and foster enduring friendships among people of all religions. Women of the Islamic world carry with them a wealth of information of their respective countries, cultures, and customs, which when shared with others - promotes tolerance, understanding, and racial harmony.
This mutual education forms the basis for an organization, which is dedicated to preserving the Islamic Heritage and disseminating information about history, art, and culture as well as providing humanitarian assistance to those in need.
